Brave Woman is a grassroots movement in Northwest Arkansas that actively partners with abuse survivors--particularly those who cannot or do not seek services--to rediscover and use their voice for transformational change and healing personally, in families, in communities, and within support systems.
I was approached with the opportunity to design a pillowcase for survivors of abuse--specifically those who had relocated to a shelter--which could be personalized by the owner over and over again. Brave Woman suggested the pillowcase's design be based around one of their slogans, "My Voice, My Life," as a constant affirmation for survivors, and also have room for survivors to outwardly express their inner thoughts and feelings, whether it be in writing or drawing.
